Context
8Beats is a 24/7 internet radio dedicated to Video Game Music, based in Lyon, France. It’s a personal project I’ve co-founded with a great friend of mine. The original idea was born during the pandemic. We’ve always been passionnate about music in general and we realized that video game music and composers had no real spotlight from medias. So we decided to establish our own radio station in 2021. Our aim is to build bridges and highlight all the creative talents that bring this vibrant subculture to life: composers, labels, content creators, DJs, and many more.

Mission
The challenge we gave ourselves was to design a global platform for niche sound enthusiasts and passionate gamers, but to also be accessible to every listener curious enough to give it a try.It motivated us to build an eclectic thematic programming, from nostalgic childhood favorites to hidden indie gems. This choice also lead us to design a modern and easy to use UI with some exclusive features, compared to other internet radios out there.
Here are some of the things I accomplished as a designer on this project:
• Design brand identity and website from scratch
• Handover and perform QA testing with @lovethebomb
• Create, update & improve the Design System
• Design merchandising illustrations and final products visuals
• Design social media posts and short video stories
And some of the things I accomplished more generally:
• Build a coherent 24/7 live thematic programming evolving during the day
• Create audio mixtapes from 30 to 90min
• Communicate with our 40+ residents
• Organize various events in Lyon, France
• In-depth research to find information related to the original composers

Extras
One of our key goals for this project was to establish a strong in-person presence. Hosting events and offering merchandise not only helps us build and strengthen our community, but also provides a sustainable way to cover our ongoing expenses.
